IEEE WCNC 2016 Workshop on The Tactile Internet: Enabling Technologies and Applications
A workshop in the series of ULTRA2 - Ultra-Low Latency and Ultra-High Reliability in Wireless Communications
Sunday, April 3rd 2016, Doha, Qatar

Workshop Information
Future wireless communications will not only be used for content distribution, where typically throughput per area is the most relevant key performance indicator, but more and more for applications where the system capacity may not be the critical point, but rather stringent latency and/or reliability requirements. Especially, the human interaction with technical systems is highly sensitive to delays and interruptions. Thus, in order to enable completely new applications where tactile and haptic feedbacks are an integral part of the signal processing chain, the underlying wireless communication networks need to be adapted to our human reaction time and perception. This requires a complete paradigm change in the design of future wireless communications systems.
This workshop looks into ultra-low latency and ultra-high reliability in communications from various angles, for instance

  • Fundamental trade-offs between latency, reliability and throughput, and reliability modeling
  • Obtaining reliability and availability through different techniques
  • Human interaction with technical systems which is highly sensitive to delays and interruptions.
  • Latency- and/or reliability improved solutions in the context of Tactile Internet applications, unmanned autonomous or remotely controlled systems

Beside technical paper presentations, we are proud to announce the following keynote speakers for the workshop:

  • Gerhard Fettweis, Vodafone Chair Professor, 5G Lab Germany Coordinator, Technische Universität Dresden, Germany
